Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 into a family of actors. Before Poe was nearly three years old, both of his parents dies and was raised by John Allan. As Poe became older he went to high end schools such as the University if Virginia in 1825 but was forced to leave due to his inability to pay off his debts. Later on in his years, Poe was still unable to provide for himself to live independently and when John Allan died, he left nothing in Poe's name. On October 7, 1849, Poe died at the age of 40. Before he died, he became the principal forerunner in the movement "art for art's sake" in 19th century European literature and also is most famous for his works of "The Raven" and "The Cask of Amontillado."
