The Raven

In 1845, another piece of literature by Edgar Allan Poe that was published is called "The Raven." For those who don't know, a raven is a black bird, similar to a crow, but supposedly a fearful sight to see. A raven is also a symbol of sadness and that is how it is depicted in this piece of literature. In "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe, the main character, the student, loses the love of his life and this raven throughout the work, keeps using the word "Nevermore," reminding the student of the sorrow they feel. This is a textbook example of Gothic literature, there is romance, both in the category of love and nature alongside the horror this raven represents. The nature aspect of the romance is the raven and also that the student is literally outside in nature and the love aspect is obviously the love the student feels for his late Lenore. This is another piece of work by Edgar Allan Poe that I encourage you to read for it is a wonderfully executed piece of literature that is easy to relate to.
